La Cocina de Loisaida: Pasteles Class

Presented in partnership with The Loisaida Center

María Bido, local Puerto Rican caterer, hosts this hands-on cooking class.

Join us for La Cocina de Loisaida, a monthly hands-on cooking classes where we celebrate the rich cultural traditions of Puerto Rican cuisine.

Each month we’ll explore a new batch of family favorites from Maria Bido, all based in authentic Puerto Rican flavors.

This Month’s Menu: Puerto Rican Pasteles Class

Beloved host Maria Bido will demonstrate how to make Puerto Rican Pasteles from scratch. You'll learn step-by-step how to make traditional masa with yautía and green plaintains, plus a rich and delicious pork filling, before wrapping them up like regalitos to be enjoyed during the Christmas season.

All participants will make their own batch of 6 pasteles to bring home to share with family and friends. You'll also receive recipes and instructions for how to store and cook your pasteles. And of course Chef Maria will have finished pasteles for us to sample!

Don't miss out on this special holiday event!

The class will be approximately 1.5 hours long and include time to savor the dishes you prepare together as a group. La Cocina de Loisaida takes place in the Essex Kitchen -- Essex Market's demonstration and teaching kitchen located on the market's mezzanine level.

This series is presented in partnership with The Loisaida Center with the collective mission to preserve and pass down culinary heritage from the Lower East Side community. We invite all ages and abilities to join us for these unique, fun and celebratory cooking classes at Essex Market.
